Bleed and Margin Guide for Printing

One of the biggest reasons printed designs get rejected is incorrect bleed and margin settings. Whether you're designing packaging, brochures, labels, or business cards, understanding bleed is essential.

What is Bleed?

Bleed is the extra area outside the final trim size.

This area gets cut off during printing.

Standard bleed:

3 mm (0.125 inch)

What is Trim Size?

The trim line is where the printer cuts the final product.

Everything outside the trim is removed.

What is Safe Margin?

Safe margin is the space inside the trim line where all important content should stay.

Recommended:

3–5 mm

Why is Bleed Important?

Without bleed, tiny white edges may appear after trimming.

Bleed ensures the design extends beyond the cutting line.
